Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR), an engineering design and facility consulting firm headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., hired Daniel Sours as structural engineer. Sours, who will work in the firm's Memphis office, will be responsible for analysis and design of structural elements to ensure they comply with proper building codes and production of design drawings. Sours received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University.

Cary Kopczynski & Company (CKC), a Bellevue, Wash.- based structural engineering firm, announced that Ron Mirahsani, S.E., was promoted to senior project manager.

CKC provides structural engineering services for buildings and parking structures throughout the United States.

Studio NYL Structural Engineers, headquartered in Boulder, Colo., announced that Kris Francois, P.E., LEED AP, joined its creative team as a senior structural engineer. She developed her skills at Richmond So Engineers, Arup, and LeMessurier Consultants, all in Cambridge, Mass.

Francois' design creativity surpasses her extensive buildings portfolio of museums, libraries, higher education campuses and custom residences to embrace furniture design.

She has presented lectures in structural design, furniture design, and recyclable materials to architectural students, interior designers, and structural engineering students.

The S/L/A/M Collaborative-a 165- member architecture, engineering, and planning firm with offices in Atlanta, Boston, and Connecticut-announced the selection of five new associates of the firm, chosen for their professional expertise, accomplishments, and leadership, as well as their strong commitment to the firm and its clients. One of the new associates is Peter Griem, P.E., associate studio leader of the S/L/A/M structural engineering studio. Griem holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Hartford (1996) and serves on the Board of Directors of the Structural Engineers Coalition of Connecticut.
