Concrete saw

Partner Industrial Products offers the K 950 Ring Saw. Its unique roller system drives the blade from the outside edge, rather than the center, making this tool ideal for deep-cutting concrete construction and demolition, as well as plumbing and rescue work. This is the first 14-inch gas-powered saw with a 10-inch cutting depth. The ring saw allows operators to work much closer than standard cutoff saws to corners, pipes, and I-beams without damaging expensive cutting blades. The hand-held saw incorporates improved water spray control, therefore the enhanced spray guards can eliminate the need to put up plastic sheeting to avoid spraying dirty water onto clean surfaces. Partner Industrial Products produces a wide range of cutting machines using a variety of power sources, including gasoline, hydraulic, air, and electricity.

Evaluation and design software

Offering more efficiency for engineers' analysis, design, and investigation of concrete floor systems, pcaSlab and pcaBeam version 1.5 are now available from pcaStructurePoint, the software division of the Portland Cement Association. New features provide cost-savings in design time and project material and labor. This latest pcaSlab upgrade, like its predecessor ADOOSS, analyzes beams, one-way slab systems, and twoway slab systems. Users can integrate as many as 20 spans and two cantilevers of multiple floor system types in each model.

Additionally, pcaSlab can perform strength investigation for evaluation or modifications to existing building slabs. Users save time crosschecking designs with applicable provisions of relevant design codes. This new release incorporates torsion into shear design and investigation of beam systems, as well as redistribution of negative moments over supports.

Post-installed anchor

Hilti's next generation of bolts includes the Hilti Kwik Bolt 3 Mechanical Anchor.According to the company, with an improved wedge design and higherstrength base material, the Kwik Bolt 3 has the best independent approval ratings in its class and is the best overall stud anchor on the market with performance values that exceed or meet its predecessor, the Kwik Bolt II. Available in sizes ranging from 1/4-inch to 1-inch diameter and in electrogalvanized carbon, hot dipped galvanized, SS 304, and SS 316, the Kwik Bolt 3 Mechanical Anchor satisfies a wide range of fastening applications in a variety of environments. It's also available as a standard thread length bolt for high shear load applications and as a long (full) thread length (up to 7 inches thread length) bolt for greater application flexibility.

Watertight sealant

EMSEAL announces the availability of COLORSEAL, a pre-compressed, hybrid, silicone- and-impregnated-foam sealant.

EMSEAL's COLORSEAL technology is ideal for sealing walls in stadiums, office buildings, casinos, universities, convention centers, government buildings, retail shopping malls, airports, and hospitals.

Designed for curtainwall and metal cladding systems, as well as structures made of concrete, brick, and stone,COLORSEAL overcomes the fatigue and potential cohesion failure of liquid sealants by combining factory-applied and cured silicone bellows with an impregnated expanded foam sealant backing.

COLORSEAL features non-invasive anchoring, eliminating the need to drill or screw into sensitive substrates, which eliminates the risk of spalling and enables installation into inside corners that are impossible to seal with aluminum rail and rubber strip-seals.COLORSEAL's foam seal is watertight after a single material installation.

Reinforcing anchor

CINTEC America offers the CINTEC Reinforcing Anchor System, a micro cement anchoring and reinforcing technique. The system is used for repair and renovation of existing buildings. At the site, the CINTEC Reinforcing Anchor System, fashioned out of a steel bar enclosed in a mesh fabric sleeve, is inserted into the structure in need of reinforcement. A specially-developed, non-polymer, cement-like grout is then injected into the sleeve under low pressure. The grout fuses with the mesh, expands, and shapes itself around the steel to fit the space. CINTEC uses state-ofthe- art dry or low-volume wet diamond drilling techniques to reduce or even eliminate water damage associated with conventional concrete wet drilling.

A brighter outlook

After years of ups and downs, cautious optimism greeted 2012. While economic progress lagged in 2011, this year started off with most in the consulting engineering industry adjusting and rising to the challenges of a volatile economy.
