A showcase of products and services for building professionals
Complimenting the top-notch educational sessions scheduled for the 2006 Structural Engineers Building Conference & Expo, held Nov. 29-30 in Washington D.C., attendees had the opportunity to meet with many of the industry’s most valuable product and service vendors.
Additionally, conference attendees were exposed to some of the newest products and services on the market from a wide variety of exhibitors.
For example, ARCOM, the company that publishes specification system MASTERSPEC, was on site to showcase its new book/CD, Specifying LEED Requirements, which is a handy, all-in-one reference source for specifying LEED requirements.
RAM/STAAD/Bentley Systems—this year’s platinum sponsor—highlighted RAM Advanse Version 8.0. It is the latest version of the product that features a number of innovative engineering desktop programs, including retaining wall design, skip loading for continuous beams, tilt-up wall design improvements, masonry wall design, and shear wall design improvements.
Representatives from the Council of American Structural Engineers were present to promote its new "Guidelines for Site Visits," which is a teaching tool for young engineers.
RISA Technologies demonstrated its newest product, RISAFoundation. This application is a complete foundation solution and can design any combination of multiple mats, grade beams, and spread footings. This program is fully integrated with RISA-3D and RISAFloor so you can move seamlessly back and forth with no loss of information.
StrucSoft Solutions, a Canadian-based software developer, unveiled its new product called Pro-Concrete. This is a 3-D concrete application for engineers and contractors.
Tekla introduced a new process, showcasing the model-based shop drawing review process, which is a method for the review of shop drawings that streamlines this tedious task, saving time and improving the quality of communication between the engineer and detailer.

Products: Engineered screwpiles
Description: Alpine Site Services, Inc., offers engineered screwpiles, a proven alternative to conventional deep foundations. Engineered screwpiles are currently being used worldwide to support loads up to 500 kips per pile. Alpine’s screwpiles typically install four times faster than other deep foundation systems, regardless of groundwater conditions. Weather conditions have very little impact on the installation rate or procedure. Alpine’s unique load-test assembly allows for onsite load tests, coupled with its patent-pending, torque data-logging system, ensures that production piles meet project specifications. With its "owned" transportation fleet, Alpine is able to offer services for your project anywhere. Working closely with both the general contractor and the project consultants, its structural and geotechnical consultants make the change from conventional, deep-foundation design to screwpile a nearly effortless substitution through shop drawings.
