PEOPLE WATCH

Matthew Brightman, P.E., S.E., LEED AP, is the 2007 recipient of Walter P Moore’s Javier F. Horvilleur Outstanding Young Engineer Award. Named in honor and memory of Javier F. Horvilleur, P.E., a Walter P Moore senior principal who died unexpectedly in September 2002, this award is presented annually to one young structural engineer at the firm to recognize design excellence, outstanding client service, and business acumen. Brightman is a senior associate and project manager in Walter P Moore’s Houston office, and a graduate of Washington State University and the University of Texas at Austin.

Carol Post, P.E., S.E. LEED AP has been promoted to principal in Thornton Tomasetti, Inc.’s Chicago office. She continues to hold the title of vice president. Post joined Thornton Tomasetti in 1997 and has more than 25 years of structural engineering experience. Her expertise includes structural designs and evaluations in concrete, steel, timber, masonry, and aluminum. Post received a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., and a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Wheaton & Sprague Engineering (WSE) has added Tom Balent, EI, senior engineer, to its building envelope staff. Balent will provide structural engineering, design, and technical support to the building envelope division, for monumental and standard curtain wall clients, panel clients, and stone and specialty clients. Balent is a graduate of Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural concentration. He will work toward his P.E. license while in the employ of WSE.

WSE also promoted Neil Unger, P.E., MBA to project engineer II for the commercial skylight market segment under the firm’s building envelope division. Unger will provide project management, project engineering, system design, and product engineering applications work for commercial and residential skylight, slope wall, and conservatory clients. He has an architectural engineering degree from Penn State University, and received his master’s of business administration from Cleveland State University.
