Graef, Anhalt, Schloemer & Associates, Inc.,-a Chicago-based consulting engineering firm-announced that David A. Fanella, Ph.D., S.E., P.E., has joined the firm as structural project manager. Fanella will be leading Graef, Anhalt, Schloemer's efforts in the areas of structural forensic investigations, progressive collapse studies, and seismic upgrades, as well as low-, mid-, and high-rise structure design. His background includes analysis and design of buildings reaching more than 50 stories and rehabilitation and retrofit of existing structures. Recently recognized for leading portions of the post-9/11 investigation of World Trade Center Towers 1, 2, and 7, he was primary author on major reports detailing the methods and codes used during the design and construction of the structures.

Paragon Structural Design, Inc., based in Phoenix, has promoted Kristen Hulett to Senior Associate.

She will now be supervising the daily activities of Paragon's field inspectors in addition to her responsibilities of project management and engineering design.

She joined the firm in 1994 as a project engineer was made an associate in 1998. Her experience includes projects such as electronic manufacturing plants, parking structures, educational facilities, and office buildings.

Hulett holds a master's in engineering and a bachelor's in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley.

Rhett A. Heiple, P.E., received the Award of Excellence in Prestressed Structures from the Graduate Program Committee of The Pennsylvania State University at Harrisburg. Presented by the graduate faculty in structural engineering, the award recognizes exceptional and noteworthy contributions to optimize the sizing and design of prestressed bridges. Heiple is a structural engineer responsible for analyzing and designing bridges and associated structures in the Bridge Unit of Gannett Fleming, an international planning, design, and construction management firm.

Leslie E. Robertson Associates R.L.L.P. (LERA), a consulting engineering firm based in New York, announced the promotion of Sami S.Matar,P.E., to senior associate. He holds a bachelor's from Princeton University and a master's in engineering from Cornell University. Matar joined LERA in 1995 and was promoted to associate in 2000.

Cary Kopczynski & Company, a Bellevue, Wash.-based structural engineering firm, has announced the addition of Dan Fredrickson and Tom Lee, P.E., as senior engineers.

Fredrickson has more than 12 years experience working on a variety of projects, and Lee has more than 20 years experience working in the structural engineering field.

DCI Engineers, a civil and structural consulting engineering firm based in Bellevue,Wash., announced the promotion of Craig Crowley, S.E., P.E., in the Spokane, Wash., office and Greg Gilda, S.E., P.E., and Mark Moorleghen, S.E., P.E., in the Bellevue office to Associate.

Crowley has more than eight years of experience providing structural engineering design services for projects in a range of market sectors, including commercial, residential, and educational.

Crowley worked in DCI Engineers' Bellevue office before moving to Spokane to help set up the Eastern Washington office.

Gilda, who joined DCI Engineers as a project manager in the Bellevue office in 2002, has more than 16 years of experience providing structural engineering design services. Gilda has extensive knowledge investigating and designing repairs for structures damaged from such elements as impact, water, earthquake, and fire. He is on the board of directors for the Emergency Preparedness Committee, and is a member of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, the Puget Sound Earthquake Scenario Steering Committee, and the Structural Engineers Association of Washington.

Moorleghen's diverse experience spans more than 20 years, and includes both design and project management for commercial, industrial, mixed-use, residential, transportation infrastructure, and aerospace facilities, for both private clients and public works entities, and has been a member of DCI Engineer's Bellevue team since 1998.
