Stagnito Media has recently launched another website designed to keep you up-to-date on news and events in the AEC technology industry. Built around the annual Stagnito Media AEC Technologies Strategies Conference, AECtechstrategies.com is organized around today’s most critical issues of responsibility for IT management: AEC design systems, AEC business systems, IT infrastructure for the AEC business, and the role of the AEC IT leader.
In addition to conference and archive information, the “Today’s Headlines” tab links to all news related to this critical industry and is updated daily so check back often. While you’re there, sign up for our eNewsletter, which offers two distinct parts: the AEC Tech Strategies Update and AEC Project Management Update! These weekly eNewsletter will come to you on a rotating schedule and to cover both topics every other week. Combined, they will keep you informed of current industry news, upcoming events, in-depth research, case studies, and more!
You can expect to find the following in your AEC Tech Strategies Update every other week:
— Relevant headlines from around the Web to keep you up-to-date on everything from IT hardware to BIM to computer systems
— Updates and in-depth information about upcoming webcasts and other industry events
— Details on what else you can find at AECtechstrategies.com.
Alternating with AEC Tech Strategies Updates, you will receive your AEC Project Management Update every other week. In this bi-weekly Update you can expect to find case studies, white papers, and in-depth articles from expert contributors as well as CE News and Structural Engineering & Design magazines. Look for the exclusive articles, “Scheduling for Success” to learn about why the schedule is the yardstick by which a project is measured; and find out how important a well-maintained schedule can be to your projects.

In addition to our newest site AECtechstrategies.com, Stagnito Media’s family of websites are created to keep you up-to-date on the latest news and events in the area of civil, structural, and sustainable engineering, architecture, and business. Following are a few stories our editors thought would be especially of interest:
Geoengineering: Can science lead the way out of the climate crisis?
There are many programs, incentives, and engineered solutions designed and accepted by design professionals to minimize carbon production yielded from fossil fuel energy consumption in buildings. There are also many other scientific and engineering approaches being explored that could intentionally intervene to alter the Earth’s climate on a global scale. Geoengineering, or climate engineering as it is sometimes called, seeks to research deliberate scientific ways to adjust the Earth’s climate, enabling us to combat the effects of our unintentionally created carbon problem and to thwart the effects of global warming. See more on this topic at SustainableEngineering.com in the May 2010 magazine archive.
The Power List: People advancing the civil engineering profession
In the civil engineering industry, we clearly realize that the work of civil engineers touches the lives of virtually everyone on earth just about every day. That’s why CE News is honoring 15 of the most prominent people in civil engineering today. The professionals that make up the Power List come from various walks of life — military, education, consulting, nonprofits, publishing, and public service — and they all have made significant impacts on the industry in their own ways, some quietly and some quite publicly. The list includes Henry Petrosky, Ph.D., Jeffrey Russell, Ph.D., P.E., and Richard Weingardt, P.E. Read the entire article and list at CENews.com in the April 2010 magazine archive.
What is smart geometry?
While there maybe many responses to this question from an intellectual or theoretical perspective, the tangible answer is that Smart Geometry is a group of individuals — architects, structural engineers, academics, software developers, and other professionals — allied around a common interest. But it is also an event. According to SmartGeometry.org, computation and the use of computer as an intelligent design aid provide the focus for the SmartGeometry Group. It was formed in 2001 as a partnership between practice, research, and academia, and has blossomed into a tightly knit community and organized annual event. Learn more about the important role of structural CIOs
Not everyone realizes how increasingly vital the role of the CIO is to the success of structural engineering firms. Find out first-hand why Steve Ross, CIO of Thornton Tomasetti and the focus of our latest “CIO Spotlight,” believes his team is improving collaboration in his firm from the inside at StructuralCIO.com.
