Without question, information technology (IT) is having a positive impact on both operations and strategy at infrastructure firms. But there are also areas of missed opportunity that management teams at design and engineering organizations will want to consider when determining where to focus their efforts for maximum effectiveness.

Farkas Berkowitz & Company recently conducted the second annual Design Firm Information Technology Survey of CEOs and CIOs, sponsored Bentley Systems, Incorporated. The purpose of the survey was to gauge the current state and future outlook of IT at leading infrastructure firms.

Ninety-five CIOs and 45 CEOs answered questions that revealed where they were aligned on IT issues, where they saw opportunities, and how they viewed one another. This is an informal summary of the responses. To learn more about the participants, read the sidebar "About the IT survey and survey participants."
