Ithaca College has taken green building into the "business" world with the construction of its new $18-million home for its School of Business.
The Dorothy D. and Roy H. Park Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise opened in January 2008. The 38,800-square-foot, four-story steel-framed building contains lecture auditoriums, classrooms, and offices. An enclosed bridge walkway connects the Business School with nearby Job and Friends Hall.
Designed to achieve a platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, the facility incorporated a wide range of innovative green building features as designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RSA). The building includes a vegetated roof, extensive day lighting, a white roof, stormwater reclamation for indoor use, high-performance glazing, highly efficient motors and boilers, waterless urinals, low-velocity displacement ventilation, rubble stone base quarried locally, native vegetation, extra insulation, a south-facing façade, and wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
