According to the American Institute of Timber Construction, structural glued laminated timber (glulam) is the nation’s original engineered wood, dating back to the 1930s. It is widely specified for residential, commercial, and institutional projects because of its strength, warm aesthetics, and competitive cost. Glulam is popular for headers, ridge beams, and floor beams, as well as curved members and arches. Unlike steel and concrete, which consume natural resources, glulam is a renewable material harvested from millions of trees that are replanted monthly.
