PEOPLE WATCH

Bill Bretnall, P.E.
, has joined TLC Engineering for Architecture as a senior structural project engineer for the firm’s Orlando structural division. Bretnall has more than 35 years of structural engineering experience on a variety of building types, including corporate offices, hospitals, and education facilities. He received his architecture degree from Western Reserve University. With nine offices and 400 people, TLC Engineering is one of the largest multi-discipline engineering firms in the Southeast. Design services include structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, communications, technology, security systems, and sustainable building systems.

Perry Smith, P.E., has joined Collins Engineers, Inc., as the assistant vice president of Structures. Working from Collins’ Chicago headquarters, Smith will focus his efforts on fostering existing and potential client relationships in the realm of waterfront engineering throughout the United States and internationally.
Smith comes to Collins with more than 15 years of experience as a program and project manager on complex and technical projects in engineering design, offshore structures, and inland field operations. Prior to joining Collins, Smith served as director of diving, Waterfront & Offshore Structures for Oceaneering, Inc., in its Chesapeake, Va., office. He was responsible for the WINDSOC contract as the program manager and managed the Underwater Welding Program. He has worked as a project manager and structural design engineer for projects for the Navy, ACOE, Air Force, and commercial projects. Smith has also worked as an oilfield construction diver, and construction manager for heavy industry and offshore projects.

Steinbicker & Associates, Inc.,—a full-service structural engineering firm with headquarters in Dayton, Ohio—has announced a new office in Orlando, Fla., as well as the addition of two new principals to the management team. To accommodate the firm’s growth, Jon Schuchmann, P.E., and Mark Remmetter, P.E., have been added as firm principals. Schuchmann will serve as the general manager for Florida operations, while Remmetter will serve as general manager of Dayton operations. Remmetter has been with the firm since 1992 and Schuchmann has been working in the Orlando area for about 10 years.
