CENTENNIAL, COLO. — The American Galvanizers Association (AGA) has developed an online continuing education seminar to educate specifers about the environmental impact of hot-dip galvanizing including the results of a life-cycle assessment (LCA) environmental study.
The online course, Sustainable Development & Hot-Dip Galvanizing, is approved with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) for sustainable design (SD) credit or hours.
The online seminar (www.galvanizeit.org/aga/sd-seminar) will take approximately one hour to complete. At the conclusion of the course, the student will be given a short quiz, and upon successful completion immediately receives a Certificate of Completion for his/her records. The AGA auto-files credit for any student who successfully passes the test and provides his/her AIA or NCEES number.
The online course is the latest educational tool released by the AGA to teach architects, engineers, and other specifiers about the sustainable aspects of hot-dip galvanized steel.
In late 2009, the AGA released the new seminar in its popular Galvanize It! continuing education series which is provided in a lunch-and-learn format across North America. Additionally, the AGA published Hot-Dip Galvanizing for Sustainable Design, a comprehensive publication on the sustainability of hot-dip galvanizing including data on life-cycle assessment and life-cycle cost as well as case studies.
The AGA and hot-dip galvanizing industry are committed to sustainable development and to that end will continue to conduct studies and publish data on the greenness of galvanized steel.
The online seminar and in-person seminars are free to all specifiers, and more information is available at www.galvanizeit.org/seminar.
