CHICAGO — Jacques Cattan has been named the American Institute of Steel Construction's (AISC) vice president of certification; and Heath Mitchell, P.E., replaces the late Kurt D. Gustafson as AISC's director of technical assistance.

Cattan previously worked at AISC from 1994 to 1999 as a staff engineer. He left to join Chicago architectural and engineering firm Teng & Associates as a project manager, focusing on developing proposals and managing competitive and A/E design-build projects.

"We're pleased to welcome Jacques back to AISC," said Roger E. Ferch, P.E., AISC's president. "He returns with significant leadership experience and industry expertise and will be influential in AISC's efforts to educate the marketplace on the value of quality certification."

Mitchell also rejoins AISC. He was an AISC staff engineer from 1994 to 1999 then left to work for PCS Structural Solutions in Tacoma, Wash, to gain design experience as a project manager. Since then he's maintained involvement with AISC as a committee volunteer and also has worked part-time on AISC's technical assistance panel. He resides in Tacoma, Wash.
