Architect emphasizing energy and environment in his campaign for Virginia’s 10th District seat

McLEAN, VA. — Dennis Findley, a Washington, D.C.-based architect with more than 20 years of professional experience, has announced his candidacy as a Democrat in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. Findley, who is opposing Republican Frank Wolf, is focusing on both energy and the environment in his bid to join the U.S. House of Representatives. Findley believes that his campaign focus on issues related to energy and the environment is a natural carry-over from his day-to-day role as a design architect.

According to Findley, “Facilities have a major impact on our carbon footprint and as a result, architects have been at the forefront of trends in sustainability for years. We’ve been able to make great progress by working collaboratively with engineers, contractors, and manufacturers. I’d like to see that kind of momentum brought into the realm of public policy on a broader basis. In order to achieve ambitious—but critical—goals to protect our natural resources, we’ve got to challenge ourselves.”

Findley believes that a role in national government would enable him to take a hands-on role in supporting continuing research and technology development for renewable energy sources and green building systems, as well as more stringent standards in environmental stewardship. He also emphasizes the importance of public transportation, and is calling for a new transportation master plan for the Washington metropolitan area in addition to a push to extend the region’s Metro system further west along the I-66 corridor.

Findley holds an Associate of Engineering in Architectural Technology with highest honors from the Nashville State Technology Institute, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University where he graduated first in his class. After earning a Master of Architecture with commendation from Harvard University, he spent the early part of his career with The Architects Collaborative and Graham Gund Architects in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
