HOUSTON, Texas – LJA Engineering, Inc. hosted the 7th Biannual Special Speaking Engagement with Dr. Barton Smith, a Houston economist and former University of Houston Director of the Institute of Regional Forecasting, on Wednesday, November 2nd. Dr. Smith shared his views on Houston’s economy in 2012 with over 130 guests at City Centre’s Norris Conference Center.
Dr. Smith’s comments were guarded due to the uncertainty and unrest in the U.S. and International markets. He did say, however, that he thought the Houston economy would continue to grow, outpacing the majority of the country. He also said he did not see a second recession, although a full recovery may not be seen until possibly 2017.
The overall theme of his discussion very strongly stated that we are becoming more and more “Global Dependant” with international markets having greater influences on our local economy.
