iPad to unlock power of new app for building designers

NEW YORK, NY – A new BIM-focused iPad app has been released. The app, goBIM, allows users to navigate models and review data tagged to elements of the model. Learn more about this app.

goBIM enables Building Information Modeling (BIM) to be viewed on iPhones and therefore in any location, including construction sites. BIM generates and manages building data by using three-dimensional, real time, dynamic building modeling software.

The launch of the iPad, available in the U.S. since April 3, is set to radically increase the power of the app, since designers will be able to view models on a much larger scale.

Several apps allow users to view three-dimensional models, but goBIM is the first iPad-compatible app to enable users to navigate models and review data tagged to model elements (such as materials, manufacturer information and volumetric information).

Keough is inviting building designers to trial the app and provide feedback to help guide development of the tool and new functionality.

He has also released an “application programming interface,” which allows developers to create their own exporters for any platform.
