STV wins ACEC Engineering Excellence Award in South Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. — STV won an award in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Engineering Excellence Awards 2011 competition in South Carolina. Its project, SC 171 over James Island Creek Bridge Replacement, won an Engineering Excellence Award in the structural systems category from the ACEC-South Carolina.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation determined the original James Island Creek Bridge connecting James Island and Charleston needed to be replaced in order to meet the growing traffic needs of the area. STV provided complete design services, including roadway and structural design, environmental documentation and permitting, utility coordination, staged construction details, and overall project management for replacement of the James Island Creek Bridge. The new structure now has five lanes with sidewalks and bicycle lanes.
